The Algoma Rod and Gun Club in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario will be hosting the 2017 Cadet Biathlon Northern Ontario Area Completion on January 28th and 29th. On Saturday, January 28th from 10:30 a.m until 3:00 p.m that relay races will take place while on Sunday, January 29th from 10:30 a.m until 12:30 p.m the individual races will hit the snow.
This Olympic-style competition is the Second of Four Stages and will consist of over 200 athletes cross-country skiing 1 – 2 km loops through the challenging terrain of Sault Ste Marie and shooting .22-calibre rifles at falling-plate targets in the range stadium. Sea, Army and Air Cadets will be representing communities of the Western, and Eastern parts of Northern Ontario.
These cadets will travel from locations as far West as Red Lake, East Renfrew and as far North as Kapuskasing with points in between to compete in this competition. The top cadet teams and individuals of this event will compete again in Sault Ste Marie on February 11th and 12th in the Regional Competition which will be for top awards in the Province of Ontario.
The Fourth and Final Stage will be the National Cadet Biathlon held in Val Cartier, Quebec March 2nd through 6th, 2017 and will feature the top cadets in Canada.
